GOOD NEWS

GOOD NEWS #1: ARNIE FIELKOW VOTED NEW ORLEANS
BEST POLITICIAN. New Orleans Magazine’s annual “Best of”
poll again chooses our beloved Council President. Running second:
Councilwoman Jackie Clarkson.

GOOD NEWS #2: Everyone loves charter schools. Lusher is voted #1
by NOMag readers, but an extended featured by Dawn Ruth also
documents by this form of community-school leadership is making
New Orleans one of the nation’s leaders in public education reform.

GOOD NEWS #3: A shout-out to the School Leadership Center of
Greater New Orleans. After 12 years of training principals and education
leaders in programs which focus on school achievement, and placing most
of its grads in the charter school movement, NOMag gives them kudos.
And in a recent article by Sara Carr of the Times Picayune, every major
mayoral candidate that responded to their questionnaire expressed support
for charters.

GOOD NEWS #4: Those who refuse to be distracted; THE 2010
MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS ARE ABOUT MOVING THE BALL!
We send Kudos to those in the Mayor’s and city races, as well as St. Rep
Karen Carter, for refusing to play the race card. What polls do show is that people
…white, black, male, female…are pissed off at the lack of results from Nagin
and his Administration. Hence, we’re all looking for a change, not the same old,
same old. We especially want to highlight James Perry for looking like a leader
in this debate on the issue of race.
