NOPD Chief Riley should be sued for libel

THE BAD NEWS: AS MLK Day approaches, we’re all about the race card.
US Senator Harry Reid may be in hot water for his racially insensitive analysis
of the viability of Barack Obama in the 2008 president’s race, but he’s got
nothing on our local politicians. During a one week period, we had candidates
Troy Henry and John Georges, as well as out-going Mayor Ray Nagin
playing race cards for what is shaping up to be a mayor’s race dominated
by one candidate: Mitch Landrieu. But the real kicker is NOPD Chief Warren
Riley, who needs to be sued by Councilwoman Stacy Head for his allegations.

STACY HEAD
The rumor that there are emails in which Councilwoman Head uses the “n” word
have circulated for months. If such emails existed, they would have been offered
up by all her critics. What we do know, however, is that when St. Rep. Karen Carter
refused to oppose Councilwoman Head’s re-election, a group of ministers close to
former Congressman Bill Jefferson (whom Carter opposed in 2006) raised funds to
put former St. Rep. Irma Dixon in the race again Carter for the District 5 Senate Seat.
Rep. Carter held her ground and refused to be bullied.
